Understanding first-hand the challenges young people face, Darryls lived experience has proven to be uniquely successful in reaching difficult to reach young people because he is a survivor and his experiences are relevant and relatable.
A witness to domestic abuse – under a child psychologist from a young age and subsequently a care leaver, Darryl became involved in gangs in Moss side Manchester. Darryl has been shot at on three separate occasions, hit by over 20 bullets and stabbed 7 times.
After serving 12 years in jail he now mentors young people who are at risk of becoming involved in gangs or already involved in gangs. To date he has facilitated change in over a 200,000 young people’s lives. Recently Darryl attended Clarence House in the capacity of an adviser to HRH Prince Charles on Knife Crime prevention and reduction.
Darryl is that committed to changing outcomes, reducing knife crime and gang culture, despite losing his mother and mourners being shot at on the day of her funeral, he still, on that day went to the aide of youth in distress and at risk. Most Recently, Darryl appeared in the BAFTA award winning GunNo6 in which he told his life story.
Darryl is a fully rehabilitated ex-offender with an Enhanced DBS and is also fully insured. He is able offer unique bespoke packages to each client’s requirements. No two packages are the same. The package a client wants constructing can be fully copyrighted after completed and under his copyright the service user can use this within their own organisation for further development.
Darryl has provided services for numerous statutory agencies varying from the PCC of Greater Manchester, IGMU, GMP, Greater Manchester Probation, Manchester City Council, Manchester Children’s Services, Merseyside Probation Service, Staffordshire PCC, Staffordshire Police, NABIS. Others who have been fortunate to use his services are Stoke on Trent Children’s Services, Stoke City F.C.
Darryl still regularly provides a mentoring service for some of the most complex offenders within the North-West of England. Manchester & Merseyside statutory services have every confidence in him to support and effect change. Darryl is very fortunate to have had his work highlighted in the Home Office and to be praised by Tony Lloyd MP in person & the media.
Schools, Colleges and Youth Clubs
The work facilitated in learning establishments coincides with the school curriculum as part of P.S.H.C / P.S.H.D and Citizenship. The programmes delivered can ultimately save lives. Darryl has lectured extensively in Higher and Further Educational settings across the UK including; MMU, Liverpool Hope, JMU, Liverpool Edgehill and UOB. He appeared as a keynote speaker at numerous events including a national conference “The Manchester Journey” and praised by Judges in courts for his one to one work with hard to reach young people.
